Want to be a writer?
People often tell me that they want to be a writer. To this question I always respond, "Do you want to, or would you like to be a writer?" There are many things we would like to do, but never get around to. The reason? We don't want to badly enough. This is evidenced by guitar that is languishing in the corner of my room. I have dragged it cross country more than once in the 23 years I've owned it. From time to time I decide to get back to trying to play it. That usually lasts between 1 day and 2 weeks. If I really wanted to play the guitar, I would be. Still not ready to give that up yet. Maybe tomorrow.
Here's a clue about being a writer. A writer writes. Period. If you want to be a writer, start writing. Write in a journal. Write a story. Write a letter. Most importantly, WRITE. The minute you start writing, you are a writer. When you stop, you are no longer a writer. Think on these things.
